Since 1919, we have carefully managed the size of the practice; small enough to be responsive to our clients, large enough to sustain the high calibre of legal expertise needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced and competitive environment. We focus on litigation solutions provided by our team of lawyers and supported by an excellent staff of law clerks and legal assistants. Centred in Hamilton, we regularly defend clients across Ontario. 

A focus on leading-edge information technology had us well-placed to address the drastic changes to the practice of law with the pandemic. We have continued to reinforce this expertise. Our teams were able to work remotely essentially immediately (thanks to our top-notch IT) and we continue to have a vibrant hybrid model to our work, across all aspects of the firm. This commitment to advancing our clients’ interests is reflected in the ongoing ability to get things done with the courts and tribunals. Our lawyers and their support teams have run numerous virtual and hybrid trials and tribunal hearings (including the first virtual civil trial completed in Hamilton).

Our customized, client-responsive practices include regular and timely reports, accessing relevant issues at each stage of the file. Such reports keep our clients informed of progress and allow the responsible lawyer and the client the opportunity to discuss developments and adjust strategies as appropriate. Our leading-edge information technology allows us to ensure efficient file development and management and a delivery of cost-effective services. As our clients have specific reporting and file management needs, we tailor our practices to ensure our services are timely, helpful, and accessible. Student programs

Our student programs provide excellent opportunities for new and potential team members at Evans, Philp LLP. We are committed to the development of our students and lawyers from the earliest stages onward – through formal and informal mentorship, continued education opportunities, and meaningful participation in a varied litigation practice.

Many of our summer students return to article with the firm, so we suggest a review of the articling information as well. Many of our lawyers, including our partners, are former articling students of the firm; development is taken seriously.
